The Triads are a gang featured in Driver 76.

Description

The Triads are a Chinese gang present in New York, hailing from Chinatown, Manhattan. The leader of the Triads is Zhou, the father of Chen-Chi, Ray's girlfriend, and Zhou's lieutenant is Jimmy Yip.

Before Zhou became the biggest boss of the Triads in the city, he and Jimmy fought to take over Chinatown and got ambushed by the old boss's goons, and recognized the people in the ambush. In retaliation, Jimmy killed the families of the people involved in the ambush, and some time later, Zhou became the leader of the Triads.

Appearance

*NOTE: The Triads only appear inside missions and/or cutscenes.

The Triads make their first appearance after the mission Ray Gun, when Zhou invites Ray and Slink for a business proposition. He has a wishlist of special cars that need to be delivered to him as a gift for the Tong elders, and he promised to give the duo a $60,000 reward in exchange for the cars. But when the duo delivers the cars, they find out that Jimmy works for Zhou, who promptly refused to pay them money.

Later, Zhou and Jimmy confront Ray and Slink once they and the Thompsons steal cocaine shipments from the Latinos. Turns out that the drugs actually belonged to Zhou, and he called out Ray and Slink for not thinking their plan through and selling him his own merchandise. At this point, the Thompsons betray Ray and Slink, taking the money and the drugs.

After Ray and Isaiah deal with Romero, the leader of the Latinos, Ray and Slink get kidnapped by the Triads, who take them to talk with Zhou, who reveals that he managed to recover his drugs and punish the Thompsons. However, it's also revealed that Jimmy betrayed Zhou and began working with the Latinos in an attempt to overthrow him and take over his empire. Thus, Zhou enlists Ray and Slink's help in crippling Jimmy's empire and killing him, including getting Jimmy's goons arrested, smashing up his supermarkets, stealing a weapons shipment, and delivering a car rigged with a bomb to his mansion. Jimmy survives the explosion and kidnaps Chen-Chi, culminating in a chase to a warehouse in the Bronx and Ray chasing Jimmy's helicopter until he crashes into it, killing Jimmy onboard.
