Checkpoint Races (also known as Motocross) are Side-Jobs in Driver: Parallel Lines and Driver 76.

Description

There are a total of 7 Checkpoint Races across the map. Like other Side-Jobs, they are unlocked after starting Pay Ray and can only be completed off-mission. They are not marked on the map; they can only be identified in the game world with a purple corona and spinning motocross helmet Checkpoint Race.

Quoteleft Hey baby. You think ya'll can beat my time?
Oh-ho, think you can beat my time?
 Quoteright
―Racer when approached.

At each location, a competitive racer will challenge the player, when approached, to beat their record time across a set of checkpoints. A vehicle will also be parked at the location, although the player can use any vehicle they choose. Threatening or killing the racer will cause the mission to become unavailable. If the racer is threatened, he will wield a Revolver (1978) or Pistol (2006) and begin to open fire on the player.

Once the player starts the race, a timer appears on screen, counting down from the racer's record time. The player must then pass through purple markers representing checkpoints throughout the course. The courses generally consist of around 30 checkpoints positioned within short distances, and always loop back to the original starting location.

Each course has a different time to beat based on the number of checkpoints and the total course distance. The locations are the same in the 2006 era as they are in the 1978 era, although the courses themselves differ between eras, as do the record times and Perfect Driver Bonus times.

Although the player needs to be in a vehicle to start the race, they will not fail for exiting and/or swapping into another vehicle once the race has started. They can also use weapons freely, unlike during Circuit Races, since there is no competitors on the course.

If the player fails to hit the last checkpoint and beat the racer's time, the mission will fail. They are given an opportunity to restart the mission by pressing "← BACKSPACE" / Back button (Xbox) / Select button (PlayStation 2) / A button (Wii).

Quoteleft Nice going man. You beat my time.
Woooah nice one, you beat my time man!
 Quoteright
―Racer when finishing the race.

Once the last checkpoint is hit, the race is completed. The player will then be rewarded and congratulated by the racer.

The mission will become available again once the player is 1000m away from the starting location.
